Health Screening – What is your body composition?

Sara FITNESS, Health, NEWS & REVIEWS

At  SK- Life Fitness all my clients receive a health screening on a regular basis; which involves checking blood pressure levels and monitoring your body composition in order to establish each individual’s total health and fitness. Your body is comprised of two major components: lean mass and fat tissue. Lean body mass represents the weight of bones, muscles, organs and connective tissue. Fat tissue is necessary for protection, thermoregulation, insulation and the transfer of fat-soluble vitamins. With composition scales I monitor an individual’s body fat percentage, BMI, total water levels, visceral fat (bad fat laying around internal organs), muscle mass and physique rating, bone mass reading and base metabolic rate (how many calories their body burns in a day.) I then take the clients blood pressure to check that the systolic and diastolic readings are within the correct range and they are safe to exercise. Systolic blood pressure (the top number) measures the amount of pressure that blood exerts on vessels while the heart is beating. Diastolic blood pressure (the bottom number) measures the pressure in your vessels between heartbeats. If systolic and diastolic blood pressures are too high, you have hypertension. Regular exercise and a healthy diet however, can help to lower your blood pressure.  If you are overweight you are putting yourself at risk of developing type 2 diabetes and coronary heart disease.

When you are trying to loose weight and get fit it is important to not eat into muscle tissue and just lose fluid, and therefore you need to monitor your body composition regularly. The good news is that you can now buy yourself this equipment at an affordable price as the ‘Wellness Connected Monitoring System’ has just been launched!
